Etching before restoration

Over the course of their life, a print may have come across various environments which have been detrimental to their health, making them vulnerable in old age.

Antique prints restored in our studio include:

  • Engravings
  • Etchings
  • Mezzotints
  • Aquatints
  • Lithographs
  • Chromolithographs
  • Woodcuts
  • Screenprints
  • Modern reproductions

Sensitive treatments

Our studio cares for prints from all eras whether they have high monetary or sentimental value. The results achieved following restoration allow the artwork to return to display in as close to its original condition as possible.

All treatments are carried out with historic integrity in mind, using minimal intervention to ensure the future stability of the artwork. Many treatments prevent previous damage (such as mould) from recurring.

Professional conservation

Our ICON accredited paper conservator is able to professionally restore:

  • Mould growth and moisture disturbances
  • Foxing, staining and discolouration
  • Tears, ripples and creasing
  • Water damage and marks
  • Fire and smoke damage
  • Acidic mount and frame deterioration
  • Damages following a household disaster or accident

Protective Framing

Our specialist frame technicians offer conservation-appropriate options to protect your artwork following restoration.

Prints can be mounted safely away from the glass in acid-free surroundings to prevent deterioration.

To protect the ink or colour, we suggest that UV protective glass is considered to prevent fading.

Our team offers museum view glass that both protects and has a less reflective quality for a clear display.

Although my print was badly degraded by the artist's use of double-sided tape and an acidic backing mount, it had great emotional significance for me. It felt like a risky leap of faith to send it as I had not used Fine Art Restoration Company before. It came back immaculate and transformed, returned to its original condition and with no discernable damage to the subtle graphite drawing. The company were reassuring and returned it with no hassle. Highly recommended.

We recently commissioned The Fine Art Restoration Company to restore two art works for us, an oil painting and pastel drawing. From the first contact through the detailed discussions of work required, collection, restoration, updates and feedback, to the delivery of the works back to our home we were very impressed and reassured.
The restoration was impeccable and highly professional. Amazing transformation! Customer service was outstanding. The collection and delivery were safe, smooth and on time. We would REALLY recommend this group of professionals!
