Modern Print Restoration
Conservation is not reserved for antiques. Modern print restoration is also essential for conserving contemporary artworks on paper requiring specialist treatments and museum-level expertise to avoid deterioration and loss.
Our conservation team works with precision to ensure the safety of modern and contemporary artworks, from the restoration of foxing and water damage to the most devastating tears. We are able to sensitively restore:
- Moisture disturbances
- Foxing, staining and discolouration
- Tears, ripples and creasing
- Water and mould damage
- Fire and smoke damage
- Acidic mount and frame deterioration
- Damage following a household disaster or accident
Conservation treatments are all tested to ensure your print is safe throughout the process. Minimal intervention to maintain artistic integrity is always at the forefront of our conservator’s mind, so you can rest assured that no unnecessary treatments will take place during the restoration.
High-value prints
We regularly care for highly valuable artworks with a specialism in Banksy prints. Our team has also restored artworks from many well-known artists including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, and Eduardo Paolozzi.
Our studio and transportation are insured for high-value artworks and items, extra coverage can be arranged if this is required.
When your print is collected, you can rest assured that your print is in the hands of trained and experienced professionals from start to finish.
Frame damage and adhesive staining
Many frames harbour acidic elements within the mount, backing board or surrounding materials. This will slowly contaminate the artwork leading it to darken, yellow and begin to deteriorate.
Our paper conservator often works on modern art that has been disturbed in this way, safely clearing any contamination before they are reframed safely.
We use conservation-appropriate framing materials, ensuring that all materials have neutral pH levels. Our technicians avoid the use of any acidic elements when creating a bespoke mount for your print.
The original frame can be kept with only the mount and backing board replaced, or an entirely new frame can be selected to suit the artwork or your own preference.
UV protection
All works on paper are highly sensitive to fading from UV rays, sometimes to the point of complete loss. UV protection is highly recommended for valuable artworks.
Our technicians offer UV protective glazing for new or existing frames. Museum view glass helps to prevent fading whilst allowing for a wonderfully clear view of the print.
