Professional cleaning from trained conservators may be required if you have a valuable or unique frame that has a build-up of dust, debris or environmental contamination.

Professional frame restoration can address the following issues with precise cleaning techniques:
- Build-up of dust and debris upon the surface and within fine features
- Stains and significant areas of discolouration
- Contamination from fireplace soot, smoke staining and nicotine
- Lost or damaged gilding – these areas can be cleaned and reapplied
- Discolouration following water damage – including mould growth
- Decontamination and prevention of common pests such as woodworm

Routine cleaning

We do not recommend that an untrained person cleans a frame beyond a very gently dusting at home, as this may often lead to accidental damage.
