Easel Painting Conservator

We are seeking a full-time Easel Painting Conservator with at least three years working experience in Painting Conservation to join our busy Carlisle, Cumbria studio.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Verbal and written assessments, condition and treatment proposals and reports.
  • Examination and treatment of historic and artistic paintings, painted surfaces and artefacts in the studio and on-site.
  • Familiarity and adherence to the ICON practices of conservation and museum-quality standards.
  • Removal of varnish and re-varnishing, surface cleaning (from dirt, mould etc.), removal of over-painting and retouching of oil paintings and artworks.
  • Repair of complex tears, dents, flaking paint, cracked and warped supports, or delamination.
  • Ability to complete routine filling, lining, stretching, in-painting with minimally intrusive techniques.
  • Accurately match colours, paint application appearance and techniques of artists.
  • Cleaning, repair and gilding of frames.
  • Working under own initiative in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Solve complex treatment issues and work under pressure to meet deadlines whilst upholding confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, risk management and an eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • EDUCATION: Degree in Art Conservation, or commensurate conservation apprentice training and experience.
  • EXPERIENCE: At least 3 years of painting and painted surface conservation. Working knowledge of art history, chemistry, studio art technique and ICON conservation standards are a must.

We are seeking a full-time Business Administration Apprentice to join our busy team in Carlisle.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Answering the telephone.
  • Deal with enquiries.
  • Liaise with new and existing clients.
  • Support the sales team with quotations.
  • Process new jobs.
  • Preparing paperwork.
  • Update our mailing list and systems.
  • Work alongside our accounts, marketing and logistics teams.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • EDUCATION: You will need at least 5 GCSEs including Maths, English and ICT.
  • EXPERIENCE: You must be highly organised, efficient and quick to learn.

Key Account Executive

Due to business expansion and our continued success, we are seeking a full-time Key Account Executive. This exciting new role will entail supporting our Key Account Manager in numerous areas. This includes assisting in providing clients with recommendations and quotes, following up with clients in an organised and timely manner, answering queries, working on a range of projects to drive new business, and much more. Working with a diverse range of clients from private individuals, galleries, leading insurance companies and historic properties. Our work and success are driven by a high standard of customer service and talented people carrying out restoration work.

The successful candidate will need to be a well-organised individual, have excellent communication skills, a drive for providing great customer service, attention to detail and take pride in providing a positive experience for potential and established clients.

Some travel may be required occasionally to attend client assessments and business meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in providing recommendations for clients
  • Contact clients regarding their requirements
  • Follow up in a timely manner with clients
  • Manage and update systems with key information
  • Assist in new projects to help them come to fruition
  • Work closely with colleagues to provide them with key information

The ideal candidate

The successful candidate will have proven experience liaising with customers from a sales perspective. You will be confident in communicating with people via phone, email and in person. You will be highly organised, be able to handle multiple projects in an efficient and detailed way and be quick to learn the processes and systems used.

Experience in art restoration and conservation is not essential as full on-site training will be provided. An interest or appreciation of art would be desirable. Full driving licence is essential.

  • Salary: £20,000-30,000
  • 20 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays
  • Working week: Monday to Friday 9.00am – 5.30pm, 37.5 hours per week.
